Opel invested in growth and found itself in the largest product offensive in the history of the company: From 2016 to 2020, the brand has brought 29 new models on the market. In 2015, Opel presented a milestone of its offensive – the new Astra: it is a quantum leap in terms of efficiency, networking and innovative equipping. Furthermore, the brand has successfully filled new segments with vehicles such as the compact SUV Mokka, the lifestyle small car ADAM and the convertible Cascada.

The aspiration of Opel is to provide high-tech for everything, in all segments – at affordable prices. The company has made German engineering art accessible to a broad population class and surprises with innovations, which are otherwise known from the upper class. The Astra, for example, features state-of-the-art driver assistance systems and the glare-free Matrix lighting system IntelliLux LED®.

The brand sees itself as a pioneer in the field of digital networking, between human and car, setting standards with the personalized online and service assistants Opel OnStar with 4G/LTE WLAN-Hotspot standards in the volume segment. On the way to becoming a comprehensive mobility service provider, innovative concepts, such as the car sharing app CarUnity were brought on the market.

Opel has been involved in the research of automated and networked driving for a long period of time, starting with the European research project PROMETHEUS and continuing with various German and European research projects, such as MOTIV, INVENT, AKTIV, simTD, AI-DE, PRE-DRIVE C2X, DRIVE C2X, UR:BAN, Converge and AdaptlVe. Opel is also a partner of the Ko-HAF Project, in the field of joint highly-automated driving.

Within PEGASUS, Opel is in charge of the 2nd subproject “Implementation processes”. In addition to the professional as well as organizational management, Opel provides the interfaces for the other subprojects : existing development processes will be assessed in the 2nd subproject and, depending on their modification needs with regard to the development of automated driving functions, they will be assessed, with potential modifications being elaborated.
